Yes, it’s only June and I’m already whining about the heat. Today the heat index is 105. It’s going to be a long summer. I think I’ll be heading over to the pool in a bit. Things have begun to settle down a bit around here. I’ve started at work and I can not stress enough that these people make ME blush. OMG. Imagine a unit full of me when I’m crabby and hopped up on massive amounts of caffine, yes 6B/G night shifters I’m talking to you! It’s crazy, they are a great group so far. I’m not nieve enough to believe that they always get along as well as I’ve seen in my few short weeks but it’s been fun so far.
I’ve gotten some spinning done and made a few purchages, including some bamboo fiber and two new spindles which are awesome! My first yarn is spun I just need to wash it to set it. With out further ado, here are all the pictures.
This is spun from two of the sample fibers I got along with my first spindle kit. I’m actually kind of impressed as to how it turned out!

These are the two spindles I ordered and the fiber. All three are from Butterfly Girl Designs on Etsy. The bamboo is a little bit more difficult for me to spin than the sample fiber. It’s a lot more slick and I have to pull off short amounts of fiber to keep it from tangling or pulling apart but I really do like it.

Here is a little bit that I have spun up on one of the new spindles!

Yes this is a chest tube type clampy, but damn it, it works!!!

I have also finished the lace leaf shawl I was working on. I just need to block it which I plan on doing this weekend. That way I can make sure it doesn’t become a gato bed whilst it’s blocking!
Besides all that my future mother and father in law stopped by and she taught me how to make biscuits southern style. Those of you who are afraid of fat might want to look away the following images could be disturbing to you! The recipe is oddly simple. As she told me it’s all in how you mix the dough. So enjoy my foray into biscuit making!
Ingredients include: Fat in the form of Crisco, buttermilk, self rising flour and water. Thats it.

But wait, the Crisco doesn’t go into the dough, it goes in a pan, like this!

Like I mentioned before Glada said it’s all in how you mix the dough, and damn I mixed until I thought my arm was going to fall off!

After mixing you pour the dough out onto a floured counter top or bread board or whatever you got to spread dough out on, then just kinda pat it down and go at it with your little biscuit cutter. Mine had a past life as a mushroom can! Warning, dough is sticky!

Put your little doughy bits in the fat (remember the glob of crisco in the pan? Yea set it on the front burner turn it on low and melt the fat) the dough goes in the fat, close together then put it in the over at 450 for about 20 minutes, when you see it start to brown, turn it on broil for about two minutes until the tops are brown and Tada! You have biscuits!!!

I know there were a lot of pics in this and sorry it’s so long, I have more stories but I’ll save them and do another post this weekend. Those of you who emailed me yes I got them no I”m not ignoring you. I promise I’ll write back before the end of the weekend!!! I miss all you guys back home!!! Off to find my swimsuit and off to the pool for me!!!

I’m impressed with the biscuits!! Good job!
But stealing a chest tube clamp? tsk. tsk.
Hope you are surviving the heat. It’s humid here today too but not nearly as hot as down there. Still can’t believe your co-workers are making you blush.
I didn’t steal it….not really. It happened to be in my pocket when i got home one morning, you know kind of like those billions of pens and alcohol wipes that make it home!
What other medical supplies to you put in your biscuits? first it’s chest tube clamps……..then it’s chunks of…??? heehee no really, your biscuits look yummy—-especially how they innocently float on a pool of FAT! “eat meeeee…..eaaaat meeeeeeeee…….!” i am glad you are liking your new job so far. i can’t believe it’s sooooooo hot there! there is like major flooding up here. we are on an “A” weekend now and we miss ya!
later,
mo
If you take your hand, make a fist, and then roll your hand on top of the biscuits knuckle down, it’s s’posed to make them rise better. So says my boy’s great grandmother. I’ve only just learned this one from him.
If you coat your hand in grease or a bit of flour, your hands won’t be soo sticky next time. I roll mine out, not cut them, you may find it easier. Kinda like making hamburger patties.
