It’s three am here and it is still 80 degrees outside. I am convinced I have moved into some outer ring of hell. This is the third day in a row that it has been well over 100. Now I know I should be thankful that we haven’t had the storms like you guys up north there have been having to endure, but is a little rain or even a few clouds to much to ask for, really?? You walk outside and it’s like BAM!!! Insta-glow (cause we all know that girls do not sweat, we glow). It hasn’t even been worth showering if you plan on doing anything outside, unless of course your going to the pool or haven’t shaved in a few days. I don’t know how Don works with out passing out right next to the rail tracks, I get dizzy walking to my car! The saddest part of is it, is that it’s only the second week of June……This does not bode well for the rest of the summer. And of course I get the “how ya handlin the heat” crap from people. Like it never gets hot in Minnesota. sheesh. Do I handle heat well, no. Do I handle it any worse than I did back home….no. I’d almost take -40 than this crap, at least at -40 you can put on another scarf….in this heat you can only strip down so far, and even then it doesn’t really matter.
Remember a few posts ago I talked about finally being a legal driver……well it wasn’t entirely true…….. In North Carolina and I don’t know if this is true else where since all the cars I’ve licensed have been bought in the same state, have to be inspected within ten days of registration. Well the day I went in to get my plates and crap the state decides to do some software upgrade and the computers go down. I had paid my money and all that she just needed to print some stuff off. So she tells me if I have other things to do, that I could come back and she would just have things ready for me and I could pick them up, so that’s what I do. I go back about two hours later and the place is still packed but things appear to be working again. I get in my spot at the end of the line to patiently wait my turn. The desk lady spots me and waves me over and hands me the white envelope that my plates are in and tells me I’m all set. With orientation and work and all that I couldn’t get my car in until day 8 of my ten day inspection limit. I get into the repair place and he asks for my registration card……. my response is registration card?? And he’s like yea the blue paper you got when you registered your vehicle. Yea…..I didn’t get one. All that was in my envelope was the plate, that’s it. Guess what…..he can’t inspect my car with the card and its Saturday…….yea I”m screwed. I go home and tear the apartment apart looking for this blue card/paper that just may have gotten set aside or put away….Yea, I didn’t get one. Monday morning rolls around, Day 10, and I call the license office to inquire about my lack of a registration card. “Oh honey you must have gotten one, that’s just standard procedure that it goes in the envelope with the plate”….Yea, I didn’t get one…. I explained the circumstances of the day I came in and she repeated the whole standard procedure crap. Well come on in and 15 dollars later we’ll have you all set. Right….. I inquired what would happen since I’m not getting the vehicle inspected within the ten days….She assured me not to worry about it….I’m not sure the police would buy that as an excuse. Anyway, Wednesday I go in drop the $20 bucks (she forgot to mention you could write a check for $15 but needed to have $5 cash on hand for the notary fee……thank god there was an ATM near by….) Got my car in and inspected and go the little sticker on my front windshield, so now I’m finally legal….good lord.
I also found out yesterday that the state of North Carolina decided i was OK to be a nurse in this state and granted me my permanent license. $220 later they dang well better!!! I work my first night shift tonight, hence why I’m still up at three in the morning. You morning people can keep your day shifts! 5am is sleepy time not time to get up. Good Granny I can’t count how many morning this past few weeks that my alarm clock ended up on the other side of the room. At first it was kind of nice being up with the rest of the world then, like everything else, the novelty wore off and all that left was the reality that it really wasn’t worth it. I don’t like crowds, and going to Wal-Mart at 6 or 7 in the evening means an hour trip for one thing. There is more traffic, and most people drive like their pants are on fire down here, well I guess in this heat with leather seats they kind of are….anyway. I’m just not made for a day job. Now going it at like nine or ten would be awesome, that I could handle. 5am no way.

You are too funny. I don’t feel sorry for you with the heat, yet, at least. It is still cool, humid and wet here. I almost forgot about your blog, but now I will be able to spy on you here and at ravelry. Later.
I know how you suffer. I pretty much just stay inside in the air conditioning till Halloween. I wish I were kidding. And on another score I actually envy you. You have the perfect “day” job for a fellow nocturnal. Personally, I think it’s a serendipitous evolutionary adaptation that I’m nocturnal. I sunburn in about 5 minutes, and get a rash from sunscreen, have light sensitive eyes, so the fact that my body rhythms want me to sleep till afternoon is kinda convenient. I’m designed to “only come out at night”
even so, it’s not easy to live in a diurnal world, specially with kids. LONG COMMENT, SORRY to babble on so.
